FAQs
What is the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?
The terms are often used interchangeably. However, sometimes companies will use the term “stump grinding” to refer to a process of grinding the stump below the surface of the ground, sometimes just a few inches. While this does help to eliminate some of the hazards associated with stumps, and improves the appearance of the area, we have found that the best insurance against problems like stump regrowth, insect infestation, and eventual sinking related to decomposition is deeper grinding. We don’t offer shallow grinding unless site conditions require it. We prefer to grind 6-12” below grade to help ensure that the result matches your expectations.
Will the tree grow back after stump grinding?
In most cases, grinding the stump well below grade prevents regrowth. Some species can send up shoots from remaining roots, but this is uncommon and can usually be managed easily. We grind deep into the stump and surface root zone to reduce the chance of regrowth.
Do you clean up the stump grinding debris?
Yes—cleanup options are up to you.
We offer:
● Grind & Go, with chips left in a neat pile on site
● Grind & Level, where chips are used to even the ground around the stump
● Grind & Haul away debris
● Grind & Green, including haul-away, soil leveling, and grass seeding
We’ll explain each option so you know exactly what to expect.
Do you call 811 (Call Before You Dig), or do I?
We call 811. For any work that requires deeper grinding or excavation, we contact 811 to have utilities marked before starting. This protects you, your property, and our equipment.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes. We stand behind our work and want you to be completely satisfied. If something isn’t right, we’ll make it right.
I have a narrow gate or tight access. Can you still reach the stump?
Often, yes. We use compact equipment that can fit through many residential gates and tight spaces. If access is limited, we’ll review photos or visit the site to confirm before scheduling.
How much does stump grinding cost?
There’s no flat price because every job is different. Pricing depends on:
● Stump size and number of stumps
● Access to the work area
● Surface roots and obstacles
● Cleanup option selected
We offer free estimates and can often provide a quote using photos.
